Our Story

Begonia Fine Foods is a catering company whose owners consist of a devoted couple named Ja and Liesl Wall. Together they have over 50 years experience in food service. Both Ja and Liesl developed a love for their careers at a young age, growing up cooking in our families homes.

Ja has a degree in culinary arts from the New England Culinary Institute. He has catered all over the east coast for often very large groups exceeding 1,000 people. Ja has worked in the kitchens of several prestigious fine dining restaurants including Eseeola Lodge in Linville, NC; American Seasons on Nantucket Island, MA; and La Fourchette in Philadelphia, PA. He also worked on the La Mann race circuit which at one point took him to France. Ja has been involved in preparing meals for celebrities, and even a president of the United States!

Liesl has a culinary degree from Horry Georgetown Technical College, but her career focuses on service and sales. She worked as a fine dining server at the Grove Park Inn for three years, leaving to start a family and then to help manage the catering business she and Ja created. Liesl is highly educated in fine dining food service plus beer, wine, and cocktail service. She enjoys working with clients to create celebrations that will be remembered for a lifetime. Liesl finds it an honor and a privilege to be such an important part of peoples most memorable occasions.

Ja and Liesl feel it is important to offer delicious food for everyone and take meticulous care in preparing catered meals for those with any type of diet restriction and/or allergy. We recognize that there are often a small group of guests at events that require special diet needs. Ja and Liesl are happy to accommodate them individually.

Ja and Liesl have the education and experience to provide event coordination, create custom menus, experienced staff, and polished service for all catering needs, large or small. Our motto is “Strive for perfection, but accept excellence”.
